Need Energy on Moving Day? Eat the Right Breakfast Foods for a Nutritional, Invigorating Boost
Posted on April 28th, 2011 by Paulina Aguilera
When we get stressed out, we tend to make poor food choices, and what’s more stressful than a move? If you want to feel energized on the morning of your big moving day, consuming a nutritious and wholesome breakfast is exactly what you need. The foods MovingCost.com shares with you in this blog are low calorie meals jam-packed with fiber, healthy fruits and energizing vitamins. Get the energy boost you need the morning you move with these delicious and nutritious breakfasts.
Parfait
Parfaits are ridiculously easy to make, and loaded with calcium. Opt for a fat-free, vanilla flavored yogurt for your parfait (no more than ½ cup) and top off with ½ cup of your favorite fresh fruit. Our favorites include blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and peaches. Add ¼ cup of granola to give your parfait a nice crunch and the filling needed to hold you over til lunch time.
Omelet & Toast
As you wait for the movers to show up at your front door, whip up a quick omelet using 1 egg and 2 egg whites, plus spinach, diced tomatoes and a small amount of mozzarella cheese. Toss two whole wheat bread slices in the toaster and serve once the eggs have finished cooking. Don’t butter the toast if you want to keep your breakfast low-cal.
Cereal, Milk & Fruit
Cereal is a staple breakfast food, but it can be tricky to find a brand that doesn’t list “sugar” or “corn syrup” as one of the main ingredients. You don’t need a sugar crash on the day of your move! Pick up a box of Uncle Sam cereal, which is loaded with healthy whole grains and flax, and add ¾ to 1 cup of the nutritious mix to your cereal bowl. Throw in ¾ cup of blueberries, raspberries or strawberries and pour ¾ cup of fat-free milk or a light version of a milk alternative to complete the meal.
Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwich
We’ve covered the nutritional benefits of nuts before here on MovingCost.com, so it should come as no surprise that we recommend a peanut butter sandwich the morning of your relocation. But instead of spreading sugary jam on your sandwich, substitute it with ¼ cup of sliced banana. Swap white bread for a whole wheat alternative, and serve with ½ cup of blueberries for a tasty, antioxidant rich breakfast.
What if you’ve already packed up everything in your kitchen and need to pick up a quick breakfast somewhere else? Don’t worry, we’ve got that scenario covered as well. Here are two healthy options if you’re taking your breakfast on the go:
Bagel & Cream Cheese or Hummus
Say goodbye to your favorite neighborhood deli with a whole wheat bagel for breakfast. Bagels are packed with calories, so make sure you ask the server to go easy on the cream cheese. You can also ask for a hummus spread instead of cream cheese to get in a bit of protein in the morning.
Egg Sandwich & Fat-Free Latte
Make a Dunkin Donuts run early in the morning and ask for an egg & cheese English muffin sandwich. Skip the meat for a lighter alternative. If you’re a coffee drinker, order a small latte with fat-free milk. Remember to skip the sugar!
