Things to do Immediately After Moving

Posted on May 11th, 2010 by Ricardo Louis

So you arrived at your new spot. You had a pleasant moving experience thanks to your moving company, now what? Before you even think about touching a box to unpack, consider getting these important trivialities out of the way first.

Find the Nearest Hospital/Police Station – Heavens forbid something drastic happens to you or one of your family members. In the extreme case that it does, you’ll need to know where the nearest hospital is – and the fastest way to get there. Even if there isn’t an emergency, you’ll need to know where it is for any doctor’s appointments you may have in the future.

Find the Nearest Hair Salon – No one likes to have a bad hair day, but imagine having a bad hair week? Even worse, what if it isn’t by choice – it’s simply because you don’t know where the nearest hair salon or barbershop is? Explore by driving around or asking your new neighbors. Some people are pickier with their hair care than others, so it may be a while before they find that special hair expert that can acquiesce to their needs.

Find the Nearest Supermarket – Don’t let you or your family go hungry because you don’t know where to shop for food. Every town in America has a decent sized market for customers to shop for groceries. Living off take-out food for the first few days in your new digs is alright, but sooner or later you’re going to need to fill that fridge with some actual food, and not pizza or Chinese.

Find the Quickest Routes to School – Nothing is worse than being late to class, all on account of not knowing which road you should’ve gotten off at to get to school. You don’t want to make your children late for their first day of school and you don’t want to be late either, so make sure you’ve planned out the routes in advance.

Soon enough you will start blending with the locals and remember your happy move.
