Do It Yourself Movers: How to Load Your Cabinets Onto Your Pick-Up Truck

Posted on October 26th, 2010 by Alejo Tenutta

As you bought that pick-up truck, you surely thought to yourself that one day this will come in handy when I’m looking to move. Well, the day to relocate is finally upon you and it is time to take full advantage of your pick-up truck, but there’s more to it than simply tossing everything in the back. The last thing you want to do is damage your valuable belongings, especially your beloved cabinets. See, there is actually a scientific approach to properly loading your cabinet in the back of your pick-up truck. Here is a step by step process as to how you can do it:

Begin by preparing plenty of blankets and professional ones please, not the kind you use for bed. Professional blankets can be purchased online, by magazine, or at any specialty/hardware store. If you don’t buy them directly from a store, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time for them to arrive. Now, lay several blankets onto the bed of your truck and be certain that there is enough cushioning for the cabinets to rest on. Use the other blankets to cover your cabinets. The easiest way is to drape the blanket over your cabinet, then secure it with plastic wrapping.

Once the bed of your pick-up truck and your cabinets are secured in blankets, start loading the actual furniture. As you load the cabinets, be sure that the drawers and doors are always facing upwards. Although they will be covered and secured with the blanket, you want to avoid any doors swinging open or drawers sliding out. If there is not enough room and you need to stack cabinets next to or on top of one another, make sure that there is a folded blanket in between them, thus avoiding any direct contact.

Finish up the loading process by tightening the cabinets with rope or straps. The best options are the straps with locking devices, which make them easy to utilize and are the most secure. When you think that they are secure enough, simply give them a tug and if they don’t budge, then they’re fine. Don’t tighten the strap too much or you might warp or damage the cabinet.

Now that you have everything protected and secured, turn the key and get on your way. As long as you have made sure to use enough blanket for padding and the cabinets are tied down properly, you won’t experience any problems during the moving process.
