Moving into your new residence means you might have to remodel some minor things. Now flooring may seem much more than minor, but surprisingly enough there are some simple and affordable ways to change up that funky-colored carpet or chipped ceramic tile underneath your feet. The best and most attractive method is to replace your current flooring with easy to install wood flooring. Here’s a step by step explanation of how to install low-cost wood flooring in your new residence.
The first thing you will need to do is gather your tools; whether you already own them, need to borrow them, or even purchase them, these are the necessities to installing your own wood flooring. Although easy to install wood flooring only requires fitting the pieces together, you will need a miter saw, hammer, blade, measuring tape, and scrap wood.
Once you have your tools handy, it’s time to select the wood flooring that best suits your new residence. Take your kitchen cabinets, wall-unit, dining room table, and all other furniture into consideration when choosing a color. You’re obviously going to want to pick a color that matches the rest of your belongings. Also note that lighter colors will open up your room and make it seem more spacious, where as dark-toned colors can close up an oversized room and give it a cozier appeal.
Now it’s time for the physical labor! Start by rolling out the foam padding on top of your existing floor, this will make sure that your flooring is even once it’s in place. Simply cut off excess padding with your blade and make sure that the padding covers the entire space.
Start grabbing floor boards and knocking them into place with your hammer. This type of wood flooring is designed to click together, so all it requires is a small thump of your hammer. Now for corners or anything else that hinders the board, use the miter saw to modify the board so that it fits perfectly. Remember that the wood flooring doesn’t have to reach all the way to the wall; you can leave space as long as the baseboard trim you’re going to use will cover the gap. Make sure to utilize your measuring tape in order to get your measurements correct, this will help eliminate unnecessary labor.
Lastly, you’ll need several feet of baseboard trim to place where the wall and floor meet. Use the measuring tape to measure accurately because your cuts will have to be perfect. Turn your miter saw to make the 45 degree cuts on the baseboard trim for corners.
