How to Inspect Your Shower Before Moving In

Hiring a professional moving company does much more then simply cut out the uncomfortable sweat and muscle cramping. A qualified company will allow you time to inspect the smallest details of your new residence, such as your shower. Just because a shower may appear to be in good condition at first glance, doesn’t mean that it won’t give you headaches later on. Here are a few guidelines you can follow in order to properly inspect your shower before relocating.

One of the most important things is checking for mold or water damage. You definitely want avoid any type of mold, so check carefully, it might be creeping in a dark corner. Also check for water damage, this means that something may be wrong with the pipes and that can become extremely costly later on. If the shower is in an apartment with upstairs neighbors, make sure that there is no water damage coming from their apartment.

You also need to check faucets, make sure nothing feels loose when turning or pulling them. One damaged piece of plastic or metal inside the handle, and you better prepare to call the plumber or take apart the faucet yourself. Regardless, it can turn into a pool of frustration, so make sure to check before you sign anything and move in.

Inspect the tub or shower doors, make sure that they’re sealed correctly. That means check the white or clear line that connects the tub or doors with the rest of the shower. Not being properly sealed can create two problems, one is that it means the entire shower was probably finished improperly, and two is that it could cause water damage.

Finally you need to check the shower head and carefully look for rust or any other type of damage. Even if replacing the shower head is inexpensive, needing a plumber to do it can become expensive. If the shower head has a filter, then good; check to make sure the filter is in good condition.
