What to Look for When Buying that Dream Leather Sofa

Obviously, when purchasing furniture, things such as size dimension and style are extremely important, but what about more detailed questions? Let’s say you’re moving to your new residence and want to buy a leather couch for your new shindig, then what should you take into consideration? Here are a few tips on what to look for when making your leather sofa purchase.
Knowing the difference between the various grades of leather is pertinent to your purchase. While the highest level of leather such as full-grain aniline may not be in your budget, you should definitely try to stay away from split-grain leathers; these tend not to last for very long. Also make sure to check the origin of the leather, some places produce better quality than others.
Another element to take into consideration is the manner in which the leather on your sofa is manufactured and prepared. Top-grain leather like aniline is soaked in aniline dye, and it contains no other form of dye or finish. Semi-aniline leather possesses some coating as protection from those “I can’t have people over” fades and stains. Lesser-grade hides are usually highly treated for protection, but you will feel the stiffness of the couch.
Once you’ve done your homework, the fun part begins! Head over to the store, where you can wander aimlessly, as you try out the various couches at your disposal. Sit on them, lay on them, but just don’t jump on them, you might end up angering some of the store’s employees. Remember that everyone is different, so while someone else enjoys really soft leather, others may enjoy a stiffer grade. This is why it’s important to try out the sofa before buying it, and why purchasing one online or by mail may not be such a great idea.
Ah, now you’re officially relocated and have your dream leather couch sitting in your living room. What now? Simple; invite that special someone over and snuggle up underneath a few blankets, while enjoying a romantic movie. Or if the romance department is in a bit of a recession, just invite some friends over and enjoy a comedy as you guys cry from laughter. If neither one of these ideas sound any good, then just turn on the television, plop down, and enjoy a quiet and peaceful night.
