If You’re Not Sure, Choose Metal Roofing

As a potential home buyer, there are several elements you should take into consideration before purchasing any home and moving in, one of the most imperative being the type of roofing your new home has. See, the reason that there are so many various styles of roofing readily available is because every area is affected by different climate, so some materials are better suited for specific locales. This is a good time to point out that many experts are saying that metal roofing is an excellent choice for any location, and possesses a bevy of other benefits.

One of its main benefits is its weight, because it is heavy enough to endure strong winds and rain, but not heavy enough to require extra support, such as concrete or tile. In fact, it is much lighter, considering that tile is usually 750 pounds per square and concrete is approximately 900 pounds per square, while metal roofing is only 50 to 150 pounds per square.

Another amazing amenity and huge money saver, is that this roofing is fast and easy to install. Thanks to the fact that most metal roofing materials come in multi-shingle sections or sheets, any qualified contractor can have it installed with ease. Obviously, making it easier for a contractor to work will mean that their fees will be much lower, than they would be if they were installing a different material.

Also consider the fact that metal roofing garners a Class A fire rating, which signifies that it is highly resistant to fire. These are one of the bigger characteristics that buyers should look for when choosing a roofing material. Remember that the rating also takes into consideration any material that is located underneath the metal roofing, so if there is any type of combustible material, the rating will be lower. This is great for hotter locations in the South and West Coast.

Note that your metal roof will also reflect radiant heat from the sun, thus minimizing any midday heat gain. Your roof will be low in insulation, but many systems now implement a dead-air space between the metal and roof deck, in order to increase energy efficiency.

Look, relocating into a new home can become a stressful process, especially if you find serious damages later on. So before signing any contracts or contacting any moving companies, make sure to have a professional evaluation done, so as to verify the foundation and support of the roof. There is nothing worse than investing money in a shoddy product.

You give a lot of benefits to picking metal roofing materials, but, whatever materials you choose, it is still crucial to begin by researching your options. My first resource is always McGraw Hill’s Sweets Directory of Construction Products and Manufacturers because they have the most complete directory I have seen. While I do work for them, I honestly love the CAD details you can download from their site. They are really worth checking out.
